From the artistic style of the icon as well as from available history. It appears that this shrine is a very ancient one. It is believed to be the same idol which minister Sri Tejpal of King Viradhaval while carrying out repairs to a large fortress here, after building a magnificent Jain temple, got ceremonially installed therein. It is also said that this idol remained for a long time under water which all of a sudden appeared during the period of Raja Sagardutt Sarthawah who on being impressed by the sight and miraculous nature of the idol built a magnificent temple and got the idol once again ceremonially installed therein.
